Hume Murray

Hume Murray Food Bowl

The Hume Murray Food Bowl (HMFB) was established in 2000 and covers an area encompassing 10 municipalities (7 in NSW and 3 in Victoria) centred around Albury Wodonga. The principle charter of the Food Bowl remains the promotion of regional produce and excellence in cuisine and food production including the development of closer links between local food producers, other businesses in the supply chain and consumers.

For several years there has been a number of enthusiastic and committed ‘foodies' across the region that have worked to raise the food and wine profile in Albury Wodonga and the wider region.

Hume Murray Food Bowl represents growers, producers, restaurateurs, cafes, caterers and wineries, with the member base continuing to grow.

Our achievements to date:

· Established the successful fortnightly Farmers' Market.
· Participation in many regional and national events promoting our regional produce.
· Nurtured and facilitated the presence of individual industry members at specialist food and wine events throughout NSW and Victoria.
· Organised the award–winning 2002 Albury Wodonga Region Wine and Food Festival and the Albury Wodonga ‘World's Longest Lunch' including the development of business partnership packages in conjunction with these events.
· In conjunction with Riverina Institute of TAFE – Albury provide training in regional cuisine with particular emphasis on young people.
· Developed a branded sales regime for local produce, particularly for corporate gifts and conference delegates.
· Established important links between producers, restaurants and growers to assist in business exposure and development.
· Produced a Regional Produce Diary 2004, complete with seasonal availability charts, recipes from local chefs and information on events throughout the year in the region.

The HMFB Committee, chaired by Mr Paul Muntz, has been integral to the active nature of the network, providing many hours of energy and expertise, both planning and doing! Paul, lawyer by profession (Fleming Muntz), is thankfully equally passionate about quality food, great wine and good coffee. Paul also heads up our regional Food & Wine appreciation sessions each year.

Over the past three and a half years significant financial and in kind support has been provided through Department of State & Regional Development NSW, Albury Wodonga Area Consultative Committee, Department of Workplace Relations and Small Business, Riverina Institute of TAFE – Albury, Murray Regional Development Board, Tourism NSW, Investment Albury Wodonga, Regional Development Victoria, Cities of Albury & Wodonga, Shires of Hume, Holbrook, Indigo, Towong, Tumbarumba and Corowa, Qantaslink, Radio 1494 2AY, Australian Apple & Pear Limited, Albury Wodonga Tourism and numerous regional businesses who have become Long Lunch Partners, Festival Fans and Farmers' Market Volunteers.

Since January 2001, Noelle Quinn has been the Food & Wine Development Officer for HMFB. An accomplished and awarded chef, Noelle has been involved in the food and wine industry in the region for over 20 years and is passionate about the diversity and quality of regional produce. Noelle's role includes representing HMFB on the Australasian Regional Food Wine Tourism Board and the Tourism Murray River – Food & Wine Industry Segment. She is a member of the NSW Regional Food & Wine Network and an industry representative on the Albury Wodonga Tourism steering committee. Noelle's role includes coordinating the Albury Wodonga Region Food & Wine Festival, the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival World's Longest Lunch and the fortnightly HMFB Farmers' Market.
